We need to focus more on our young black boys & young black men. Thank you for bringing Dallas Greene to more people's attention. There are many incidents of racism NOT being reported.. I too feel very angry that this young black boy,, or any of the countless other black boys and young black men have to face this racism. I too am reminded painfully of the 1960s and am very frustrated and angered that this is still occurring. The emotional scars that young Dallas will carry cannot be bandaged..<br />I am looking forward to the publishing of "I Am Every Good Thing". I hope that this book will be widely and deservedly be picked up by many school & public libraries. The uplifting affirmations in this book's prose and the lovely illustrations make this a necessary book to mirror the "true essence of black boys" as you so perfectly stated. Still insisting that the book was out of their Lexile range and too low. You know I told that student to put the book back in his book bag and keep it out of sight from the teacher. I should not have to do this but sometimes you have to move around obstacles that are placed in your path. theaudaciouslibrarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18407812566219516207noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-705805051882141157.post-12836089232020089292018-10-18T10:12:33.681-05:002018-10-18T10:12:33.681-05:00I completely agree. One solution I've found is to compromise with teachers--students can check out two books of their choice at whatever level and have one that's "appropriate" to their given Lexile. It's incredibly important that students can choose freely and read whatever they want--they'll only become consistent readers if they love what they find.amcorreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00562427971485276516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-705805051882141157.post-81708190561194693732018-07-05T05:45:20.144-05:002018-07-05T05:45:20.144-05:00This is a fantastic post and I'd love to know ...This is a fantastic post and I'd love to know your feelings on the celebrity teachers who preach ever larger (individual) classroom libraries and no system for checkout ... deschatjeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14559922937578240784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-705805051882141157.post-71318854924051454212018-06-08T08:06:04.261-05:002018-06-08T08:06:04.261-05:00It's an 'inside' gripe among school li...It's an 'inside' gripe among school librarians. We are often asked to provide a condensed training on the essential work that we do. Librarians are often resentful that we are asked to do this because it gives a strong message that our university training is not valued.KC Boydhttp://kcboyd.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-705805051882141157.post-24937609862263609742018-06-04T02:54:47.641-05:002018-06-04T02:54:47.641-05:00I have never heard of library science 101.
